Ahh April!

For many it is feeling like the

winter will never end but here in California it is feeling like

the middle of summer (at least this week).

To me, April is always associated with

the spring break road trips- like the ones we took with the kids,

Palm Springs, the college town (and food ) tour from Georgia

to Indiana,

the amusement park tour (Ross and kids)...

it is also the time of year, where I can't get enough of

local nurseries, seed banks, gardening and

getting my hands dirty along with plenty of sweat equity.

It is the time of year to take stock of details~

inside and out

prepare for the next two seasons

as we will fill them with outdoor living,

laughing, cooking, eating and sharing with

the friends and family

who mean so much.

With that in mind, I am on hiatus...

taking time to listen to the birds sing,

pro create (ART ~FOOD~ FLOWERS)

go exploring and of course, smell the roses.

Here's to hoping you get out and do the same.

The elegant yet spiffy handbag collection from Fendi's

2011 Spring line is pretty genius,

especially these top handles with the

mixed leathers. So often,

I cannot commit to my one of my own brown bags,

mainly because I'm almost always

wearing black shoes. But these

top handles would end that problem in a snap.

Anytime a bag combines black and brown,

I have to shout, 'GENIUS'.

Of course, Fendi being Fendi didn't

stop at the basic black/brown/tan-and

would we expect them to?

I love her up front frank and simple honesty
when it comes to describing her bag and contents.

1. my everyday bag. nothing fancy here, just simple and professional-looking. i'm pretty sure it's actually from target. big enough for everything i need all day + any work files i have to take home or around town. i stopped using nice bags because i beat them up too bad. they are now reserved for special occasions!

2. tic tacs. i usually go for mints over gum.

3. my crackstick. i. am. obsessed.

4. sephora makeup mirror, always comes in handy.

5. chanel's rouge coco lipstick in mademoiselle (finally bought it for myself!).

6. ipod nano.

7. monthly cta bus/el pass.

8. my current read: the happiness project, by gretchen rubin, which is actually a reread! i'm clearly in love with this book, and the start of a new year is a perfect time for a refresher.

9. my calendar. my life blood. stores all the information that keeps my life running smoothly.

10. vera bradley pencil/pen/highlighter case.

11. of course, the cell phone. nothing fancy, but gets the job done!

This bag is chic...and it's very expensive.

It is a style which is iconic and yet always new.

For most of us this type of bag is hardly an everyday

carryall but still it is always nice to have the ladylike

These by Rebeca Ray Designs

are classic...pretty, sweet and...(a little) dorky.

Rebecca Ray specializes in handmade couture handbags and fashion accessories inspired by her love of dogs and horses, as well as old-fashioned art and antiques. Her designs vary from colorful ruffled totes like the ones shown here to sophisticated leather satchels, belts, jewelry, and accessories, as well as printed home decor items like pillows and placemats. Many of the bags include removable vintage brooches (if you look closely you can see them above), a choice of over 400 antique images, and are completely hand-sewn by the Amish near Chagrin Falls, Ohio where Rebecca Ray Designs is based.

There's a new way to look at basics... like

black handbags and shoes, black pants and turtlenecks,

white shirts, camel anything.. actually that goes for

black and white too, but what about leopard?

It has always been in and out, and in recent seasons

has become a new basic go to as well- for good reason.

When pared with simple, clean looks,

read: black, white camel, brown, red,

it (one leopard accent at a time please) is

the perfect accessory to elevate

and add an edge and still maintain an elegant form.

Who doesn't want an edge?

Mine above, is a faux fur and I love it-

it's a satchel with handles and a shoulder strap-a great combination.

The best part? It's roomy enough to carry

when I'm roaming the streets all day for inspiration

or even daily errands.

head to toe in this darkest of shades.

I have always loved the edgy, slick look of

haircalf (pony skin)- and I don't care how that sounds.

I probably have a 15 year-old goth living inside of me

somewhere who refuses to leave.

Going out on a short limb, I'm going to say,

my favorite looks (esp cold temps) is in layers of black.

The look gives a whiff of badass to whomever dons it,

and a bag like this is the perfect way to tie up an

intensely dark, yet sophisticated effect.

I Love the look(modern), the feeling (boho)

and the idea (great cause) for this new lune of handbags.

Actually, I have something pratically identical to this

in a black leather (of course). My favorite of the collection is this

'liquid mesh', I think this fabrication would easily

transcend any season, day - night.

Supermodel Patti Hansen (Mrs. Keith Richards) and her longtime friend, producer/manager, Molly Madden, loved their matching bags throughout the Studio 54 era. These bags were a part of them having so much fun that they took the idea to designer Debi Koppel, the woman behind DKP Designs, and the three of them collaborated to give these '80s-inspired bags new life as Hung on U bags. I love a white summer bag.

I think they look best and make the most sense

when they are on the large side,

and maybe a little softer, slouchier

than usual (but that's negotiable).

A big white summer bag says to me-

Formerly of Hunting Season, Jason Salstein has a new line

called Our Lord and Saviour and this is a church I can follow.

Featuring high quality leathers in neutral tones, with eye catching details like the

silver crucifixtion of Jesus Christ on the front.

They are pricey-$3265 for the python and $8695 for the crocodile, ouch.

In a recent interview at The Purse Blog he defended his designs

"I wanted to create a brand that already had a legacy and a history built in. I wanted to bring back emotion and couture qualities in the handbag market. Everything is handmade with Our Lord & Saviour.

The crucifix was not for shock value at all, but rather an introduction of the sacred Gothic aesthetic I want to convey. It just happens to be the subject that receives a lot of attention and moves me the most and others as well. I am sure that Catholics are not the only individuals that venture to Italy and visit the Sistine Chapel or Vatican. People ooh and awe at the paintings, frescoes, Michelangelo’s marble Madonna etc.

I look at the clutch as a true work of art, every detail has been thought out from the inscription on the scroll, to the crown of thorns, and nails in the hands and feet. I want to create bags that have the same effect as true masters!"

Clearly this is not going to appeal to everyone

Just came across this post on

Annuls of Americus.

For some reason, I have a picture from two years ago displaying the contents of my pockets. It was tucked away in a random folder on my laptop. The photo is from July 8, 2008. I’m certain I took this photo with some specific purpose in mind. However, that purpose is unclear to me at this time. In the spirit of not letting this riveting scrap of history go to waste, I’ve created a (quite) remedial infographic.

1. Pilot Precision Rolling Ball V5 (Extra Fine). This is the only pen I use. Others have come and gone, but this guy is a keeper. I love the weight of its line when the ink is half empty. It would be cool to score an endorsement deal with Pilot.

2. Keys to my Honda Civic Hybrid (a terribly boring car that gets great gas mileage); security faub from former employer; carabiner that has long since been discarded.

3. My former corporate cell phone (Samsung Blackjack). When they took my job, they took my phone.

4. Slim and empty wallet. This model has since been replaced with a slimmer wallet that holds almost nothing and is virtually useless.

5. Sony ICD-MX20 Digital Voice Recorder. I used this for countless interviews, both over the phone and in-person.

"Well clearly, there are some issues here regarding

un-filed receipts and business cards. But for the most part... not horrible.

A couple of years ago,

I made a pact to 'compartmentalize' my handbags- to make it easier

to find/corral things-contact case/make up/Rx/sunglasses/cash/wallet.

This, theoretically, makes it easier to switch between bags on any

given day. This particular bag, is one large over the shoulder pouch

and it is very handy when trolling the streets for interesting subjects-

however

it' is also very easy to toss/drop/stash and lose things inside,

hence, the lose band-aid, shoe pad, papers etc etc.
Even though it's quite large, because it is soft and slouchy it is very
non intrusive and can handle the stashing of a hidden purchase ...or two".
